Our school is a Title 1 school. Our students come from a variety of diverse cultures with 100% of the students receiving free meals. The students are highly impacted with a high number of low socioeconomic families and a high number of English as a 2nd language students.
These students do not have the comforts of many other children their age, but they work hard to improve themselves for their own future.
The opportunities they receive in music class are often their only exposure to the arts.
My Project
I would like to purchase a set of Dash and Dots with the matching xylophone accessory, Kindles to run the app and cases to protect the Kindles. Dash is a real robot, charged and ready to play out of the box. Responding to voice, navigating objects, dancing, and singing. Students will be able to interact with Dash as they are learning music. The xylophone attachment, will allow students to not only compose songs but they will also be learning to code at the same time! Each Dash and dot will need a Kindle tablet in order to run the robot and write the coding. I want to protect the tablets for years to come by also purchasing a protective case. The case will also differentiate from other tablets in the building.
With these tools, my students will have the opportunity to have a meaningful music class where they can compose, move, read and write music in a STEAM or 21st century style.
Not only will my students be studying music, they will also gain the tools needed for the future. Coding, literacy, and creative thinking will benefit them in many ways as they continue their education.
