Bringing Math to Life

My students need an iPad, SD card, and camcorder for their technology corner to express themselves through video art.

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Thompson's classroom raised $1,292

My Students

My Inman Middle School 6th graders are the most curious, active group I have ever taught. Who like sitting in their seats all day taking notes and computing problems? My rambunctious group loves moving around the classroom and discussing their answers with fellow classmates.

Inman Middle School students are some of the most curious, intelligent, and kind-hearted people in the world.

Our students are a hodgepodge of students from many different backgrounds and socioeconomic backgrounds. They have a love of learning, and a deep commitment to their education. These amazing students should have access to the resources that are going to help them reach their full potential. They love to explore Math through extension lesson and remediation.

My Project

My students and I will use the camcorder, SD card, and iPad in many ways. The students will use the camcorder to create and record out-of-the-box math projects. The SD card will be used to store my students projects. They will be able to make skill videos to add to their math presentations or record their creative math raps, poems and stories. Children learn quicker from their peers, therefore their skill videos can be used to help their peers. As a teacher, I will use the camcorder to make class presentation videos to help my students with their homework. This year I want to flip my classroom by having my students watch videos for homework. Flip classrooms produce higher-ordered thinking classroom discussions because the students will have more time to ask and discuss their understanding of the skill with me. I, in turn, will gain valuable informal data on whether to reteach or move.

I have no doubt that my students will benefit from this project.

The added value of this project in my classroom is immeasurable. My students’ educational experience will be engaging, exciting and fun. By middle school, most students either love or fear math, therefore I want to make sure I keep it fun and engaging continuing their love and changing their fear.
