My Project

My students are very important to me and I aim to give them the best educational learning experiences I can. We are in a very rural community in Idaho and STEM opportunities are not easily come by. With our world moving towards STEM based jobs, I want to give my students the opportunity to create using a 3D printer.

My goal is to introduce students to STEM projects through geometric figures that are part of my standards: area, volume and surface area, and encourage students to create 3D models of their figures.

They will work together to collaborate projects, support each other through their investigative stages, assist their peers in staying within the grading rubric and will have a final item they can be proud of. This will help with the understanding of scale properties as well. Proportional relationships will also be phenomonal with a 3D printer. Spacial relationshhips are very hard for middle schoolers, so understanding proportions is exceptionally difficult. By encouraging them to create an item then show the mathmatical relationship by using equivalent ratios will help solidify these standards. Students will be encouraged to use formulas to create their projects and use computer programs that will compliment the 3D printer needs.

I believe students need to have a deep math and science background to ensure their college readiness. I firmly believe by having experiences with the 3D printer they will guide themselves to more STEM classes in high school and college. Those who do not want to go into a four year program will have worked with this printer and will see vocational opportunities available with these types of programs.
