Bringing Math and Science to Life Through Diverse Books

Help me give my students an opportunity to see themselves represented in a book as mathematicians and scientists. The book sets for the science library will help the students engage and explore science concepts through literacy.

My Project

Hello, I’m Ms. Cozart, a 4th grade math and science teacher passionate about helping my students see themselves as future scientists, inventors, and mathematicians. My classroom is filled with curious, bright minds who deserve to see people who look like them making incredible discoveries and contributions in STEM fields.

To inspire my students, I want to create a classroom library focused on diverse, high-interest nonfiction and fiction texts that highlight mathematicians, scientists, and inventors from underrepresented backgrounds.

These books will reflect a wide range of cultures, ethnicities, and contributions to math and science, helping my students connect personally to the content and see the possibilities for their own futures.

With your support, I hope to add biographies of Black, Latino, Asian, and Indigenous scientists and inventors; storybooks and nonfiction texts that weave math and science into engaging narratives; hands-on STEM readers aligned with 4th grade standards and

Diverse authors and illustrators to provide authentic representation.
