Bringing Manipulatives into The Classroom

My students need hands on math materials to engage in their learning.

My Students

My students are hungry to get their hands onto math manipulative's. They love learning about new math content, however we don't have many different independent math activities, which leaves students to using paper and pencil.

My students are respectful to their peers and adults, they are hard workers and they have huge hearts.

They are eager to learn new content and love to play games with their peers and use math manipulative's that are available. I work in a Title 1 school with over 72% of students on free or reduce lunch. We are an international school that has a Spanish, Mandarin and English track. I work with the students that are in the English track which are usually the most heavily impacted students.

My Project

The math center set will be used in small groups for students to work on independently. Currently students are given worksheets during their independent work time, however I would like to provide a more hands on learning experience for students and these center activities will provide students that experience. The number lines will be used during independent work time and also instruction, small group time. These number lines will allow students to erase mistakes they have and try a problem again. These materials would make a great addition to a math classroom.

This donation will engage students in their own learning.

They will be able to work with their classmates in a small group and not only have to use worksheets. They will be able to use different math manipulative's that may help students that are struggling.
