Help me give my students grow lights so they can successfully grow regionally focused plants in our windowless STEAM classroom and explore science, geography, and sustainability through hands-on, year-long learning.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I’m starting a brand-new STEAM program and want to give my students the opportunity to grow and learn, literally. Our classroom has no windows, which limits student access to natural light and hands-on biology experiences. These grow lights will let us simulate real sunlight and bring plant life into our space.
Grow lights replicating full-spectrum daylight have been shown to improve plant germination and support photosynthesis even in low-light environments.
Students will explore climate patterns, seed biology, and sustainable agriculture by growing region-specific crops indoors, mirroring NASA’s studies on growing food in space. Beyond the academic gains, indoor greenery has been shown to reduce cortisol levels, promote focus, and improve classroom air quality. These materials will support over 100 students per grade in collaborative, inquiry-based learning. Watching their plants thrive will give students a sense of ownership and pride in what they’re building together.
More than half of students from low‑income households
