My Project

In our Primary Montessori classroom we have an entire area designated to developing Practical Life skills.

The exercises of Practical Life provide the foundation for all other activities in the Montessori classroom, fulfilling the child’s plea of “Help me to do it myself!”.

When the children first arrive after summer break, they tend to focus on practicing basic needed skills for home and school. These skills begin easy, and grow and develop with the students. Over time the children gain confidence and mastery of the environment. After individual skills are refined, children apply them in purposeful work when they are older, using their finely developed pincer grip. Specifically, these activities contribute to the control and coordination of movement, development of concentration, and the self-esteem that comes with making a real contribution to our classroom community.

The materials being asked for are specifically winter-themed, which are missing from our Practical Life shelves. The items will be used for matching, grading, and for developing their pincer grip. Thank you in advance!
