This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are bright, imaginative, funny, and inspiring. They are each beautifully their own individuals. They are the reason I come into work every day. Currently, I work with 108 students who come from an array of diverse backgrounds. Many of my students speak multiple languages. They come to school ready to take on academic and linguistic challenges. I want them to love reading. To look forward with excitement when they open a book. I want them to enjoy my class as much as I enjoy getting to work with them each and every day.

My Project

My students attend a large, urban school with a population that continues to grow. As a result, there are not always enough copies of books for students to read. Currently, the only available book to my students is one which many of them have already read in middle school. These new books will allow my students to work with contemporary historical fiction novels. It will allow them to examine history in a new light and will give them the opportunity to read literature that they have not already read. These books will help students to examine human rights and will teach them about history and literature at the same time.
