My Students

Our classroom is a special education setting with students who span the breadth of abilities and skills to be found in a school. We have more students who are closer to graduating than we have traditionally had in the past and very often it is their history class that they need more credits in.

With an increased effort to graduate taking place we certainly want to ensure that if our students can graduate, they will.

Despite us having developed the curriculum needed, especially for the more struggling students, we have a rapidly growing number of students who are hungry for these types of materials in the class. Seeing their determination and drive to accomplish what now is a very real possibility in graduating we need to provide them every opportunity to do so. We have already broken our last years record for graduations from last year already scheduled until the end of this November, so we know this year will smash last years graduation record. We have been so lucky to have some truly remarkable, amazing guest speakers visit us and even had mail correspondence with people who often lived through what our classroom may be studying. Our students have repeatedly expressed a wish for us to build this library to bolster which ever social lessons we may be able to schedule.

My Project

In order to supplement the packets and textbook coursework our students need to catch up on their transcripts this library order will fill our needs. We commonly have students needing more than the available credits so this series of class book sets and a history library creates unlimited possibilities for credit acquisition. This goes so far beyond extra credit, the library will be available to all students and these books fully meet the range of student needs. The class sets of books will be primary texts in our classroom as they are much more engaging than our old textbooks. The students already have a growing respect for these works since they have been studying the primary author.

Donor's Choose has been so amazing and helpful in us creating a dynamic and comprehensive English Language Arts library that we thought we needed to do justice to our increasing emphasis on History and Social Studies.

With the changing dynamics of our aging students and their respective needs for satisfying their graduation requirements we need to increase the opportunities for these kids. Our students have traditionally never been fond of history and bringing this class to life has been a joy.
