My Project
We are seeking support to provide our biology students with access to this book, a powerful and thought-provoking book that brings science, ethics, and history together through the true story of a woman whose cells changed the world.
Henrietta Lacks was an African American woman whose cancer cells, taken without her knowledge or consent, became the first immortal human cell line, known as HeLa.
These cells led to countless medical breakthroughs, including the polio vaccine, cancer research, and gene mapping. Yet Henrietta’s story was largely untold for decades.
By reading this book, students will explore not only the biology of cell science but also the human and ethical dimensions behind scientific discovery.
