Bringing Fun and Fitness to the Playground

My students need outside playground equipment like dancing scarves, swing and catch cups, basketballs, balance balls, etc... to play in an active way.

My Students

Our school is a positive place to learn and grow. We support student learning by creating strong relationships in our classroom and promoting a positive learning environment. This type of environment is crucial to creating an environment that fosters learning.

Kindergarten students are eager to learn and curious about the world around them.

They love hands-on activities, singing songs, and learning through play. We have a full day Kindergarten that includes a strong academic base with lots of opportunities to learn and explore through play-based learning.

My Project

Our students love playing outside! We live in the desert and it is HOT outside. With no shade on our playground; the little equipment we do have (a climber, one slide, and six swings) get so hot we can't even use it. Plus, there are over 60 kids trying to use it at the same time. Our school's budget has been cut and we only have Physical Education class once a week for 1/3 of the school year. Getting my students active during recess time is a MUST!

Our students are asking for things to do at recess!

This project is "kid-inspired" because these are the things my students want to play with. We currently have NO playground "toys". They have picked balls, parachutes, dancing scarves, balance boards, and a basketball hoop. This equipment will get them active and allow them to build friendships as well! We will also be able to help them build their hand-eye coordination, balance, gross motor skills, and team work.
