Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am in my 21st year as an educator in a specialized NYC high school. My students are incredibly talented, creative, and diverse; each bringing something new and different to the classroom, as well as to our extracurricular programs outside of the classroom.
As a teacher of Advanced Placement Calculus, it is my job to help my students reach their potential while teaching them college-level material; which can only be done by providing specific and individual feedback to each of them.
This technology will allow me to conference with each student and create an individual plan to help them succeed. For example, upon completion of problem sets, I can meet one-on-one with each student to provide support on individualized problem areas, while the remainder of the class is working on something else. In short, it will help me target instruction specifically to each student's needs without taking away from the needs of the class as a whole.
Aside from being a classroom teacher, I coach one of our school's dance teams. This technology will also allow my students to create personalized musical pieces to use in their performances. These opportunities are creative in nature and extend outside of the classroom, which is so important in their becoming well-rounded young individuals.
