I have many diverse students at my school in Detroit, MI. They have different needs, but they all love to learn. They are eager students who come to school every day ready to learn. They work hard academically and at their character every day. Though I have high expectations, I am surprised daily when they surpass them.
My students need to see that their teacher and community believe in them.
They need to see that they are capable of being successful. They also need to see that they are deserving of the resources needed to be successful.
My students are very goal oriented. They love to see how they progress academically and then get even better. These students rely on school for structure, safety, learning, and fun. These students need a lot of love and they deserve every resource possible to help them be successful.
We are requesting diverse books that will help my students love reading. Our titles include books from the Who Was...? series, Roald Dahl set, Cam Jansen set, Ruby Bridges Goes to School: My True Story, Chocolate Me and many more. I have many students that love to read, but I have noticed our classroom library needs some help. There is not a lot of diversity in our library. Most of our chapter books are of only two series and many of the children are bored of reading them.
My students need books that are relevant and that make them excited about reading.
I have a very curious class and many of the books selected are targeted towards answering their questions. We have read a Magic Tree House book together and now they all want to continue reading the series, but I only had one other book from the series. In addition to that, many students are curious about people and events so these topics will help to keep them interested. I hope all of my students will love reading and these books would help out tremendously.
