My Project
In our classroom, we believe that every student deserves to see themselves in the stories they read - and to learn about lives and perspectives different from their own. Unfortunately, our current classroom library lacks books by and about people from historically underrepresented communities. This project is focused on changing that.
Thanks to DonorsChoose's Featured Favorites collection, I’ve selected bundles of powerful, inclusive literature — including books from the Underrepresented Voices, Safe and Secure, Women in STEM, and Stories of Resilience bundles.
These books will introduce my students to a wide range of experiences: from trailblazing women in science, to young people navigating identity, culture, and justice. These stories are written by authors from diverse backgrounds, sharing authentic voices and perspectives that are too often left out of traditional school libraries.
These titles are not currently available to my students, and this project will help create a richer, more representative reading environment. With your support, we can build a classroom library that reflects the world our students live in — and helps them become more empathetic, informed, and inspired individuals.
