I teach 9th to 12th grade art students in an urban community. 62% of students are classified as low income.
My students are amazing!
They come from diverse backgrounds. This diversity is one of the things I love about our high school. We pride ourselves on being accepting of all abilities, ethnicities, orientations, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Each student brings different ideas and approaches to every project. Students learn so much from each other in our art classes because of their diversity of experiences.
My Project
Many of our students have an interest in digital art making and photography. Their digital work tends to exist only on a screen. Having access to a good quality printer will allow students to print their work at any desired size up to 13" x 19." This flexibility allows them to make choices about scale and learn how scale impacts the visual impact of their work. It also allows artists to live with their work rather than flipping through it on their phone or pulling it up on a computer screen.
Taking student work from a digital screen and bringing it to life through print will allow us to celebrate creativity in the hallways of our school and in our greater community!
Printing digital photography and digitally created art allows students to enter their work into art shows and competitions. These shows often secure students scholarships, additional art opportunities, and ultimately give students a sense of pride and success about their accomplishments.
All students in our art department will have access to print digital work. In particular our photo classes, digital imaging, and AP studio art will use the technology the most.
