My Students
Do you remember how math class used to be? When I was in school, the teacher taught us how to do a problem, and then we repeated the process. Boring!
I try to avoid the boring math classroom with hands-on activities that keep my students engaged.
These activities allow the students to get involved with the math concepts on a different level. They get to create, move around the classroom, share with one another, and explore in a community atmosphere.
My Project
In my math classroom, we utilize interactive notebooks. These notebooks act as a textbook for our students. It keeps them organized and accountable. However, if the notebook is not engaging, it just becomes "another notebook". I am seeking colored paper as a way to make their notebooks more appealing and engaging. Using foldables in their notebooks increase their ability to find information quickly and allow them a more "interactive" type of notebook. Colored paper would also aid in this process. I have used colored paper in the past and students respect the notebooks that they have created and have pride in them.
My students adore dry-erase markers!
This is why I have requested dry-erase markers and dry-erase folders for my classroom. They really get engaged when they can use markers and practice math knowing that mistakes can be easily wiped away. This gives them a confidence that allows them to fully explore the concepts without fear!
