Bringing British Lit to Life: Modern Voices for Timeless Texts

My Project

I teach English IV at a Title I high school where many of my students face barriers that can limit their access to high-quality, engaging literature. Our current British literature curriculum includes classics like Beowulf, Hamlet, and Frankenstein—rich texts, but ones that can feel distant to modern students.

To bridge that gap, I’m seeking support to add contemporary paired texts that reflect diverse voices and real-world issues.

Books like The Girl with the Louding Voice, Homegoing, and Never Let Me Go will allow students to make meaningful connections across time and culture. These pairings will promote deeper analysis, critical thinking, and a renewed excitement for reading.

Your donation will help create an inclusive, relevant, and college-ready literature experience for students who deserve every opportunity to succeed.
