This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Next year I will be piloting a Dual Language Immersion program in my Transitional Kindergarten class. TK students come to school eager to learn and ready to explore the world around them. For most of them, this is their first experience in a school setting. As a teacher, I strongly believe in the importance of "learning through play". Play sparks curiosity, engages children in critical thinking opportunities, enables language development, and enhances social skills.
The Spanish books, puzzles, and flash cards will come to life with the reading wand, making learning Spanish fun and interactive!
Through the use of these materials, my Dual Language Immersion students will have fun learning new vocabulary with a simple tap of their wand. They will be able to engage in playful, meaningful, and fun activities that will allow them to listen to vocabulary words and stories being read to them. They will be encouraged to repeat these words and answer questions, supporting not only their receptive language, but expressive language as well.
The Habbi Habbi books includes topics about colors, family, feelings, animals, our body, careers, seasons, and much, much more! In addition to learning Spanish, my students will be able learn meaning information about relevant topics in TK. In addition to hearing the words in Spanish, by simply switching the setting on the wand, my students will be able to engage with these resources in English as well. This will help me promote and support their learning in both languages.
