My Students

Our classroom is a great place to be, but I know it can be even better. Help me add creative thinking to our vibrant classroom!

My students are excited to learn!

At 4th grade, students are introduced to far more abstract concepts but are still bridging the gap between abstract and concrete. They love to draw pictures, read books, tell jokes and play video games. These students come from a variety of backgrounds and homes. Many come from refugee or single parent families and several of them are learning English as their second language, there are even a few with learning disabilities and emotional or behavior issues. Our classroom is an equal playing field where all students have the opportunity to feel safe, have fun and learn with their peers. At our school we believe that all students are capable of success, no matter the obstacles they face. In addition to shaping well-rounded people, we are committed to high-quality instruction for every child, every day in every classroom.

My Project

In fourth grade, the pressure is on! Students are required to take new standardized tests which weighs heavily on them. My students really need to learn to think creatively and relax through art. I envision students using the watercolor paints and paper to create their own masterpieces while also learning from great artists. The students can also use the charcoal and oil pastels to create art using different mediums. In an effort to increase student understanding of different art mediums, I included origami paper, crochet hooks, and yarn, as well as the paper needed to make their visual arts projects. Using these art supplies, students will increase their knowledge of different art mediums and of the artists who made these mediums popular. I plan to have students first research an artist and the art medium that they excelled in and then practice that art medium on their own. Not only will students increase their art knowledge, they will also have choice and relax from the outside pressures.

School is about kids.

It should be a fun, loving and interactive place for them to learn. The tools I've requested will help me engage these kids and will help increase student knowledge of art mediums and artists. It will also help students to find an outlet from pressure. Ultimately, I want my students to be excited about learning. I really believe that this project will engage my students in ways they never have been before. I'm ready to ignite my student's passion for creative arts!
