Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are eager learners who have been presented with a large reading goal this year as AR was introduced in our district. In addition to struggling to have access to leveled AR books due to funding available for these materials, the devastating Camp Fire burned through our county last month.
This event brought a deeper level of helplessness for many of our families as they are adjusting to their new way of life after the fires have impacted their family and close friends.
My Project
After the Camp Fire that burned through Butte County, bringing a heightened level of trauma to my students, I want to give them the desire to immerse themselves into reading with new book titles, as well as books at various reading levels. By having limited options many students are deterred from reading or they struggle to find something that interests them at their level. These books, such as Stuffed, Kicker, and Rebel, will give my students more of a selection for what they want to read, expanding their options and helping them reach their AR goals! I would love to support my students become avid readers.
