"I pledge to do my best today. I will work hard. I will be kind. Who I am has value. What I think has value. Who I will become is invaluable to the world. Learn more! Achieve more! Be more! On our journey to college and beyond!" We recite our school creed every morning right as school starts.
I teach at a Title 1 school where over 90% of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch.
The majority of my students are English Language Learners with some of them being the only member of their family to speak English. 80% of my students have never been to school before making my classroom their first exposure to school.
My Project
My students come from a high poverty area where they are not given the opportunity to be exposed to different kinds of animals. These books are the best books that I have found to expose my students to animals in the world around them, such as seals, sharks, flamingos, sea turtles and giraffes.
My students love animals and these books open their world to animals they have never seen or even heard of.
I want to help my students learn about all different kinds of animals. I have had to plan lessons around books that have been available to me through the public library system in the past. By receiving our own copies of these Blast Off Readers it opens up endless lesson ideas for me and my students.
