Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"Who would like to share their ideas with all of us?" 29 hands shoot up every time I ask this question! My students are incredibly eager to share their work and they learn so from each other every day...they need a format to make their writing visually accessible to the whole group.
In my 7th Grade English class.
I have 87 eager, hard-working scholars, who are in need of your help! We are an extended day middle school, which means that our students have committed to learning from 7-5 every day. We have a traditionally under-served, high-need student population, who usually enter our school reading 1-2 years below grade level. These students work extremely hard to get on track, ultimately attending college-prep high schools. Their middle school education is the starting point for a future dedicated to learning, fostering the mind-set that all students will attend college, and have the ability to choose their own future. My students are already dedicated writers; they need the tools and support to improve their skills. To achieve this, I am asking for a document camera.
My Project
If we have a document camera, we will be able to use it for our daily mini-lessons, examine student writing and exemplars immediately upon being written, provide feedback, watch demonstrations in real-time, display our work to others, and get an authentic picture of how writers really write. This real-time feedback conceptualizes the writing process, transforming it from an abstract concept to an interactive journey of self-discovery. Students see instant validation of their work, and can share their writing immediately. This instant feedback is essential to encouraging self-reflection and revision, supporting the idea that good writing, like good thinking, is constantly evolving. I currently have access to a projector, so I am only asking for the document camera to enhance my student's writing experiences.

My students need a document camera in order to develop college-ready writing skills authentically in the middle school English classroom. They are enthusiastic to improve their writing and learn from each other, and will absorb much more when they can watch a writer think through, in the moment, the revisions and edits that push writing to extraordinary.
