Our school is located in the largest city in Oregon. Like many schools in our district, our school population is very diverse, with over 25 different languages spoken and a high level of poverty. My class consists of students with mixed abilities, languages and cultural backgrounds. My students are always energetic, smart, and thoughtful third graders who are eager to learn. For many of my students, school provides safety, stability, food, and support that they don’t have at their home.
My Project
Thank you for considering supporting my classroom. After teaching fourth grade for 19 years, this year I am challenging myself and teaching third grade. Despite being an experienced teacher, this year feels like my first year in the classroom. I'm hoping to help engage my new third graders with the Scholastic News Magazine. I want to expose my students to nonfiction and current events with the use of this magazine while helping to improve their reading skills. The subscription also comes with differentiation tools, assessments, and online resources to reinforce each magazine. With your help, my students will get to enjoy many articles to enhance their educational experience.
