My amazing student engineers are filled with a desire to learn and be the best they can be. Over half of my students come from low-income/high poverty home situations. Because of this, I need to fully engage them in activities that make learning fun.
My students enjoy writing songs and doing skits about what we are learning in our units.
With musical rhythm instruments and various types of costumes, the teacher and students will be able to bring the lessons to life.
My Project
Creative engagement is an excellent way for students to retain information. By using requested rhythm instruments such as the Djembe and the Makala Concert Ukulele, my students will be able to create songs using the curriculum being studied. The students love to write rap music with the standards. It will be great to have the rhythm instruments as a way to incorporate the arts into the curriculum as well. Students can develop differentiated beats to go with poetic raps using specific information learned in the lesson. Being able to use the rhythm instruments will motivate them to get more involved with the lesson and retain more information.
When students can become the characters in the lessons, they become more fully engaged in learning.
Using the requested fishing vests, hats and dress up clothes will help to make the lessons more realistic for the students. For example, when we learn about animals, the students can wear the fishing vests and hats to take the class on a simulated nature walk. When we are doing STEM related science projects, I will wear the lab coat to look more like a scientist in the real world.
The instruments and costumes will enable me to "Bring the Standards Alive" for the students.
