My Project
In high school, the students find themselves reading the same classics their parents read when they were in high school. Many times, this is off putting and uninteresting to them. We are trying to engage the students by bring in more novels written in the last five years. We also, want to bring more diverse voices into our classroom. Voices of minority groups that they may not have heard before.
Novels that speak our students' language; incorporating texting, teen relationships, and current events really engage them.
"Pride" by Ibi Zoboi is a modern take of "Pride and Prejudice." It contains the themes and lessons of the classic Jane Austin novel, while also adding more contemporary themes like gentrification. This novel will certainly engage my students.
More than half of students from low‑income households
