This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
6th Grade ELA often feels like the turning point for students in their reading journey--for many students, middle school is when they can either fall in love with reading , or grow more and more skeptical of it.
The books that we give our students make a huge difference in their feelings towards reading, and that is why I want to supply my students with more diverse, inclusive, and fun books like these.
More than half of the students in my district are low-income and can not afford their own books, so school is one place where they have access to books. I also teach a high population of English Language Learners, who find graphic novels more accessible and engaging.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
