My students need a high-quality projector, mount, low-glare magnetic whiteboard and accessories to better see and interact with the media and technology we use in our classroom!
My 2nd-5th grade students are all deaf or hard-of-hearing, but that's where the similarities end!
My students come from many different countries, cultures and backgrounds.
Some have been at our school since they were 3, others have just arrived with interrupted education or little-to-no access to language in their home country. Most are considered English Language Learners. Many have disabilities such visual impairments, developmental delays or emotional/behavioral challenges. Some students sign, some talk, some use AAC (augmentative and alternative communication), some do a little of everything. They are resilient, funny and hard working students. I am proud to work with them every day!
My Project
My classroom needs to be brought into the 21st century. I want to project students’ ideas onto the BIG SCREEN!
Students would be able to interact with classroom materials like never before!
Adding a projector will bring new life to our classroom; providing access to learning and hands on experiences to more of my deaf and hard of hearing students. Interactive and engaging lessons would further support their development of language and vocabulary.
Our new math curriculum contains daily projectable content, but I don't have a way to project it! I also dream of projecting our guided reading books and read aloud books onto a whiteboard so that we can all follow along, write on the text, and project student work! We travel the world during Social Studies class; imagine being able to do so on the big screen!
Being able to project and post materials on the magnetic board will allow me to teach with my hands free to communicate clearly; also allowing students to manipulate materials easily.
After seeing a colleague's projector and whiteboard utilized during lessons, I have seen the positive effect it can have on teaching and learning. I hope to provide my students with the same opportunity.
I know once we have the technology, there won’t be a day that goes by without it! In order to decrease interruptions in using our new technology, I am also requesting mounting equipment, external speakers to boost the sound for my hard of hearing students, a HDMI cord (as backup), a compatible adapter converter, as well as a replacement filter and bulb.
Will you help us improve our learning, technology skills and access to the curriculum by funding a projector, mount, low-glare whiteboard and accessories? Thank you for making this BIG SCREEN dream a reality for my class!
