This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Despite living a hard life in the South Bronx, my students are sweet, creative, and eager to learn. I work in a Title I school in the poorest congressional district in the nation. Many students live in shelters, take care of siblings, and have very little home support. In my class, 100% of students receive free lunch.

While having difficult home lives, my students feel safe at school.

They no longer have the world on their shoulders and can just "be kids."

My Project

I have taught the same students for the past 2 1/2 years and they LOVE science! I would like to bring our classroom to life by getting butterfly larva. With the larva, students will be able to observe and document the life cycle of a butterfly. Once the butterflies have matured students will release them in our schoolyard.

The children in my class live in an urban area and do not see many plants or trees.

I would like to get a terrarium so that students can watch the plants grow and learn how to take care of them. Not only will the plants teach students about life science but they will also bring a sense of life to our classroom.
