Imagine having the best classroom technology at your fingertips, but not being able to use it? I have the technology, but I don't have a computer capable of running it effectively! I need a new teacher computer to be able to effectively use my interactive white board and document camera!
I teach in a rural Appalachian community in a K-8 school.
The school PTO has worked hard to provide the latest classroom technology for our students, but we teachers do not have adequate computers to be able to use the equipment provided to us! My school is a small K-8 school, with a hight poverty rate. I want to expose my students to the world! I want them to see things that they may never see! Having a computer that can run the document camera and interactive white board will allow me to implement lessons in new and exciting ways! I can do the things with my students that I have always dreamed of!
My Project
We will be able to use the technology my students' parents have worked so hard to provide for us with ease. No more freezing up of the computer! No more stopping the lesson! No more freezing videos! No more having software too new or high powered for our computer to run! No more waiting 20 minutes for the computer to come on in the morning! Many of my students do not have computers at home, and their only exposure to technology such as this is what they get at school. I do not have a good teacher computer to use. My computer is a unit that had been used in our school computer lab. When those computers were replaced by the county, the old computers were handed down to the teachers.
My students deserve the best.
I don't want the hard work of our PTO to go to waste because I don't have the equipment I need to run the wonderful technology they lovingly raised money for. If I could get a new computer, I could use my technology effectively and open the minds and open the world for some rural Appalachian students!
