Help me give my students study the natural world around them by bringing nature into the classroom! My students spend a great deal of their year studying plants, ecosystems, the chemistry behind life and growth, and sustainable living.

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Students need hands-on experiences like an aquarium kit and fish tank to enrich their knowledge of the natural world. In Middle School Science, we spend the year looking at phenomena that drive the world we live in. My 6th-grade students study light waves and how light waves cause plant growth and drive photosynthesis. The hydroponics boxes would benefit them in being able to study plant growth through many different wavelengths of light. 7th grade studies plant biology and each of the components that drive plant reproduction. They also study aquatic biology and ecosystems within tropical environments. The fish tank would be a great addition to our classroom and allow students to explore ecosystems in a hands-on fashion. My 8th graders are studying Chemistry and the chemistry of life so the glassware and fish tank would allow them to explore the chemical processes that drive life and life's cycles.

My goal for this project is to bring nature into the classroom and help students connect to the natural world through hands-on, project-based, sustainable resources.
