Bring Literacy Alive!

My students need a reading center , themed script boxes, and books on CD to strengthen their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills.

Literacy is the power of writing, reading, speaking, and listening with a purpose. As a teacher in an urban school setting, my third and fourth graders come from all over the world blessing me with their culture and language.

I teach them to embrace each others' differences and celebrate their similarities. The majority of my students are the first of their family to be born in this country therefore it can be difficult for them to be confident in the classroom due to cultural and language barriers. Even students whose English is their first language can find it challenging to excel in literacy.

In order for me to help support these needs I must find a way to bring literacy alive. Through language games, dramatic play, creative writing, and listening my students will have hands on experiences to strengthen their needs. Words and vocabulary will come alive through games and creative writing activities. They will build confidence in their oral language skills through dramatic play while read a longs will build reading fluency. All of these resources will work together and help enhance reading comprehension.

Your generous donation will help my students learn how to express themselves sucessfully through literacy no matter where they are from. Please help my students empower themselves in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
