Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a highly diverse class of 30 engaging 2nd grade students in a lower socioeconomic section of San Diego, California.
While potential and enthusiasm are ample within my classroom, unfortunately, opportunity is not.
Although they attend a Title I, low-income/high poverty, school and face more additional obstacles than most, they are not detoured from wanting to achieve success. The majority of our school’s population comes from parents whose first language is other than English, which presents it's own set of challenges.
I am devoted to doing my best to help ensure success for these bright, energetic children, who are motivated to learn and achieve the American Dream: “the belief that anyone, regardless of where they were born or what class they were born into, can attain their own version of success in a society where upward mobility is possible for everyone.”
Your support will help them gain tools they need to reach their highest potential!
Thank you for your kind consideration!
My Project
Our students and families work hard to gain access to the American Dream every day. However, the diverse, underserved population that our Title I school serves, severely lacks access to engaging books needed to gain the skills and inspire the joys of reading, proven to build strong foundations to reach their full potential.
Reading is fundamental to help every child thrive!
AFCS students are a bright, group of energetic children who need extra encouragement and resources to help them learn to overcome the many obstacles they face, through no fault of their own
Our students deserve to benefit from everything life has to offer, without worry, especially tools which help inspire skills and confidence in independent learning through access to engaging books in English – which is not the first language for most of their parents.
Due to our low income status, our teachers must purchase many support materials on our own, which is a very challenging. Since I will be teaching 2nd grade for the first time this year, I donated all of my 5th grade books to the new 5th grade teacher.
I am now faced the daunting task of finding engaging reading books for my 2nd grade learners– many of whom do not have any reading books in their own homes.
Thank you for your donation to help our underserved students gain greater access to resources to help them achieve their American Dreams too!
