My Students

Sometimes it seems like there isn't time for History. I love History so I am integrating it into my literacy unit. I am going to teach Jamestown by using the book Blood on the River.

I work at a public school in Utah.

We have a great student body. The kids are fun and energetic and love to learn. Our Fifth grade has about 150 students. Our school is about eight years old. Our kids really need more support in content area reading.

My Project

Over the summer I read the book Blood on the River. I was captivated. I am so excited to use this book to teach Jamestown but I only have seven copies. I would like to have a copy for each student in my class so we can read it together. I plan to use the book Pocahontas and the Early Colonies to introduce the topic of Jamestown and give my students some background knowledge before we read the book. Not only will this increase my students' knowledge of Jamestown but it will also help them improve their reading ability.

This really is a great book.

It is a good sized novel but I was so captivated I finished it in a day. I know my students will enjoy it and through this book learn about Jamestown and the beginnings of our great country.
