Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have a group of active 9, 10, and 11 year old youngsters, who love having fun and getting physically fit on the field! Whether it is running laps, playing an organized sport, or completing drills and exercises, my students welcome any physical activity challenge.
I have a culturally and economically diverse group of students, but the commonalities they all share, and what I am most proud of, are their great hearts and passion for learning.
They treat each other with respect, are sensitive to each others' differences, and appreciate each others' individuality. They are my inspiration! I teach at a Title 1 school, that serves a diverse population of children with varying needs. Despite challenges, our students continue to thrive both socially and academically, with the support of dedicated teachers, a hard-working principal, an equally hard-working office staff, amazing parents, and a wonderful community! I'm lucky to be part of such a great school!
My Project
The beanbags, batons, and catch and balance set I am requesting will be used to teach important gross motor skills, foot-eye-hand coordination, and teamwork, while getting students active in a fun and engaging way. I am hoping to get this equipment to complete sets of existing equipment. For example, we have cones that we use in running but batons would be a great addition for our relay races during our track and field exercises. The beanbags and catch and balance activity will be used to continue to develop their coordination skills and ability to work as a team. I have requested a storage cart in order to keep everything in one place. Students will learn to be responsible by keeping the equipment well-organized. Weekly managers will be assigned, to be in charge of the movement of the cart, to and from the yard and to maintain equipment care.
My project will make a difference by increasing students' physical activity levels and getting them active in a variety of different play.
They will learn not only the skill of a game, but also the valuable part of what it means to work as a team, encourage their peers, and be leaders in fitness and health. It is my hope that the use of these materials will increase the overall health and activity level of my students.
