Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This year is my third year teaching and my first as a seventh grade teacher, in a low-income, high poverty school district in the Bronx. I have a class of wonderful 7th graders that consists of English language learners, special education students, general education students and come from various ethnic backgrounds. Despite the many challenges my students face, my students come to school eager to learn and strive to do better. They ask questions and are not afraid to take risks or make mistakes.
My students are creative and active 7th graders that are passionate about their work and projects.
I want to give my amazing students the skills and tools to be their very best selves.
My Project
Unfortunately, we live in a world where, oftentimes, a child's most basic needs are not met. The need for food or a snack, oftentimes, makes it very difficult for a child to remain focused on academic work, while in school or at home. Please help me keep my students nourished and focused, throughout the school day and in the evenings, at home. With your help, my students will have snacks to keep them nourished. A well fed and focused body will help my scholars succeed. Keeping focused in school is hard enough, without the added burden of hunger.
My students thirst for knowledge and wisdom, but often lack the resources to quench their needs.
