This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Art is supposed to be about creating and expressing yourself. That isn't easy in the world of virtual learning. Ours is a Title 1 school, with a majority of our students receiving free or reduced lunches. Most of our families struggle to afford basic necessities. Art supplies like crayons, drawing paper, glue, and paint don't even enter the picture. As our students adjust to the new reality of virtual learning, one of the biggest challenges they face when trying to create art is the lack of these supplies. Even finding creative alternatives isn't enough when all students have are notebook paper and pencil. Imagine trying to teach about color without having color to work with! Help my students overcome these barriers to creative expression so that they can experience Art in all it's forms.

My Project

Currently, most of my students only have notebook paper and pencils. While this has been sufficient for teaching the basics of drawing, it's vital for students to go beyond simple drawing and reach the next step by adding color to their artwork.

It's so hard for students to understand and experiment fully with color when they don't have color to work with.

By providing these supplies to my students, along with good quality paper, they can experiment with mixing colors, as well as creating works of art using analogous and complimentary color schemes. In addition, they will also be able to gain a richer understanding of tint and shade.
