This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As an art teacher, I often have students that want to use an idea in their project that comes up in a moment of "aha" or inspiration. Many of these times it's very helpful to be able to print an image out for them on the spot to either use as a reference or to use for tracing. Having a printer in my room can allow students the freedom to use reference images for portrait projects, collage projects, give examples of artist work in color and detail, and more. In order to have a color copy of anything, we need to send permission to the office and have our secretary print out our copies. This of course means color class copies are not appropriate. There are also limited areas of the school where we can print out black and white copies and many times we are low on ink or paper or the printers need repairing. I am all for using our digital resources and cutting back on the use of paper when necessary. However, technology can often make it difficult to translate our ideas the way we envision opposed to being able to hold something in our hands or work on it directly.

My students are creative thinkers, problem solvers, and risk takers in the art room.

The more resources I can provide for them, the more opportunities they have to develop their creative minds! This is not just a tool for one project. It will be a tool that consistently allows my students and me to bring color to our classroom and their work.
