Our students are eager to get creative and join the maker movement! Our Title I student population is made of amazing kids ages 5-12 who may be ESL, bilingual, dyslexic, or gifted and talented. Every student at our school has a passion waiting to be ignited. We're trying to provide them the opportunities to discover their interests and talents. We've just begun our makerspace adventure last year! Students in grades kindergarten through 5th grade have begun to experience the hands-on learning benefits of being creative, solving problems, and working collaboratively in our library's makerspace. We want all students of all ages to have age-appropriate materials to inspire them!
My Project
We want to offer coding experiences to all students in all grades including kindergarten through 5th grade. Botley and Bee-Bot are very appealing robots that use simple coding language or programming that our younger students can quickly learn and experiment with. Both robot kits come with a lot of activities and materials that will make these robots appealing and more challenging for students of all ages. We believe that learning the basics of coding helps students learn how to problem-solve, thinking critically and logically, and learn how to work through struggles with a group. These are all important skills for students to learn to prepare for their futures in education and in their careers.
