My Students

My students come to school every morning with smiles on their faces and wonderful stories to tell me. They are always full of positive energy and excited to learn. Each child is ready to try his or her personal best and take chances in order to grow socially and academically.

Within my culturally diverse classroom population, each one of my students brings a positive part of themselves to add to our classroom dynamics.

We are also very fortunate to be a part of a wonderful school. Our school is a safe and welcoming environment where every child feels accepted, valued and a member of our school community.

My kindergarten students are amazing learners. They are using their life skills of cooperation, perseverance, and personal best when taking on the new academic curriculum in kindergarten. My students are so much fun to work with, and I enjoy watching them grow throughout the year!

My Project

Kindergarten is a wonderful time! It is a special time when my students will be experiencing new skills and activities for the first time. The skills necessary for reading and writing begin in Kindergarten.

Every day my students learn and practice letter identification, letter sound, reading and writing high frequency words, and concepts of print.

As part of our Kindergarten Language Arts program, I implement a Daily 5 time. During this time, the students understand the behaviors and expectations of Daily 5, a system of five literacy tasks that teaches students independence and provides a structure for differentiation in the classroom. The students work independently at one of the five centers while the teacher meets individual needs through small group instruction and one-on-one conferencing.

One of the activities will be the listening center. The students will sit on the flexible seating chairs while using the listening center to listen and read along to a book on a CD. During this center, the students are exposed to good literature and creative stories. After the students listen to the story, they will also practice their comprehension skills by answering a question.

Reading will continue at home with the book bags. The students will be able to take home a different book bag every week. The book bags are filled with various fiction and non-fiction books. A reading strategy card is included to use when the student reads with his or her parent. Reading time is made fun at school and at home!
