My Students
The Bridge Builders are part of an urban/suburban community in Whitestone, New York. Our school serves approximately 600 students who come from a plethora of different backgrounds and home environments.
The Technology/Makespace Lab is a space students come to to engage in imaginative literature, computer technology, coding, makerspace and STEM activities all while collaborating with their peers.
This year, my goal is to ensure that all students can participate in learning, whether remote or in-person with access to the digital world.
My Project
The 600+ students at our school utilize one Technology/Makerspace Lab where they share desktop computers and laptops as available. With the pandemic, students have been unable to utilize these devices because there has been no way to sanitize the keyboards safely in between classes. With the uncertainty of how the pandemic will continue to affect our schools in the fall, one thing is certain, that students need to be back in the lab participating in computer science - but with safety as the number one priority.
The keyboard skins can be quickly sanitized and disinfected in between classes, which will tremendously help slow the spread of infection and germs in the lab and get the students back to exploring!
The skins will also extend the life of the keyboards as there will be no liquid damage to the actual keyboards. They are designed well so they can be easily wiped clean, eliminating germs, dust, dander and dirt. With our smallest learners being 4 years old, these are crucial to their longevity. The skins are also waterproof for accident-prone situations. With only 5 minutes in between our class sessions, these skins can easily be wiped down and prepared for the next group of explorers. Let's get back to business and allow our students to transition safely into the Technology/Makerspace Lab.
