Help me give my students some fun readers for those days when they are tired of the traditional textbook materials! Let them read in a context and even enjoy some of their own childhood books in Spanish!
My students are beginning-level, Spanish language students who are eager to have resources and materials that are out of the textbook and are fun and new.
They love to listen to and read stories in Spanish and enjoy learning languages in a context.
They are eager to learn more Spanish and want to do so in ways that are more visual and fun.
They are energetic, fun and always go above and beyond with class projects and activities. They enjoy Spanish music and practicing speaking as much as they can in class.
My Project
I am asking for a donation of Spanish stories and graphic novels for my Spanish 1 and 2 classes. My students will have a new library and use these books upon entering class to read for enjoyment and enhance their Spanish language skills. I will call this part of class free voluntary reading. What more could you ask for?
They will read and make connections between what they learn in class and by seeing the concepts in a context.
So often they are taught isolated grammar and vocabulary, and I hope to move them towards more contextual learning, where they can read and discuss novels in Spanish.
I can't wait for my students to have a "book club" with their classmates to talk about texts in Spanish and be able to really climb up the language proficiency ladder. I think this is just what they have been missing out on.
