I teach a fantastic group of second graders in an urban school in Brooklyn.
They love sock monkeys, kazoos, dancing, learning about art and reading! They absolutely love listening to stories and they adore reading independently. They love talking about stories and recommending books to their friends.
My Project
I want my class to continue to be excited about reading and a new sturdy book baggy will make my students enthusiastic about bringing books home! My students need sturdy, vinyl book baggies to put their books in instead of the flimsy gallon sized plastic baggies that they have previously used. Those bags constantly break and aren't sturdy enough to protect the classroom books. I would also like to get my class excited about reading with a digital book mark that they can use to time their reading at night. My hope is that they will want to read for a longer time at night because students are competitive at this age and I can envision them wanting to "beat the timer".
