This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember what it was like to get a blank sheet of paper and a brand new pack of markers at school? The possibilities were endless. Help students get the opportunity to use quality markers, pencils and paper to publish their stories during Writer's Workshop.
My students are enthusiastic authors who enjoy telling their stories and making sense of the world around them through writing.
They attend an inner city school in Southern California. Most students come from families with limited resources and limited formal education. Students enjoy coming to school and are eager to express themselves through writing.
My Project
Throughout the year students will participate in Writer's Workshop, where they will learn how to write personal narratives. By writing about their personal experiences, students learn how to make sense of their lives and the world around them. During Writer's Workshop students learn from each other as they share their stories during Author's Chair and Peer Conferencing. This process builds a sense of community in the classroom. Many of my students struggle with their writing skills. Often I have students first make an illustration before they write in order to organize their thoughts. Students enjoy using markers as a pre-writing tool. The dividers will help students be organized and have access to writing resources at their seats in binders. The beautiful lined paper will be used to publish their personal narratives, giving students the message that their stories are important. These will be shared with their peers and families.
Two key factors to student success are imagination, perseverance and organization.
The earlier they learn these traits, the better their chances of success. I believe that every student can reach his highest potential with the right teaching and the right materials. Having writing tools, paper, and an organized binder at their disposal will help them access the resources they need to be brilliant authors. Thank you for your donations.
