This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
At the edge of Miami Gardens, I teach highly active 6th and 7th graders that are from low-income homes. My students have a variety of interests and talents. However, they do not have the resources to broaden their minds.
Our theme for this year is "Leave A Little Sparkle Wherever You Go." I would like to show my students that we all have a little sparkle in us, and we should let it shine every day.
My students are still young and impressionable. I have grown to very fond of them over the past two weeks. Their curiosity to learn and creativity shows me that these books and folders will enhance their thinking.
My Project
A diverse library for my students will support the students in completing the requirement of the Reading Plan. My classroom library will be a place for my students to read in groups, complete literature circles, and broaden their shine!
Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and my students are thankful for the opportunities to read.
All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind. Students will be able to choose books which will help them continue to enjoy independent reading time.
With these new books, my students will have the opportunity to select books of their interest and level. The goal of this project is not just to ensure the students complete the required 5 books per grading period but to encourage students to become lifelong readers.
