This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The little engineers in my classroom are very excited and exercise their curiosity to the fullest extent. My students are from a high poverty neighborhood in the East Garfield area in Chicago. Even though it is really hard to live in their community with the high level of violence, they strive hard to be successful and practice being critical thinkers daily. Our school's main focus is STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), so my ultimate goal is to ensure that my students receive an enriched education that leads them to be the best independent learners possible. They have shown that they love working on hands-on projects, especially in science and math this year.
My Project
During this time of the year, I have noticed that my students are in need of basic school supplies. Since my student families are facing financial hardship due to this pandemic, it is very difficult for them to bring basic supplies to school to complete their classwork. My students will be able to use this material to independently write and draw science and math equations. Presently, my students do not all of the classroom materials they need to work independently on the Raz Kids reading program and IXL math programs. We are also in need of a new classroom chair so that my students can have rotation times reading independently.
Remote learning can be frustrating and require a lot of focus that's why I decided to ask for educational board games to distribute to my students so they will find some excitement in learning on their own.
The goal of creating this project is to ensure that writing, reading, and critical thinking assignments safely mastered with very small stipulations or stress for my students.
