Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are energetic and curious children who live in a high poverty, high density urban area. They often have limited experiences outside of this urban environment. They love learning and need to widen their background knowledge to help them engage in challenging academic subjects. They come to school looking for us to provide many of the basics they need for success. My students are lucky to be in a school with many community partners and nearby arts and cultural resources. They love learning and embrace opportunity and adventure with open hearts and wide smiles.
My Project
My fourth grade students need a comfortable and good looking area that invites them to linger over a book. We are currently reading at a lovely oak table and chairs but need more options to keep us settled at our task. An inviting reading corner would add the final touch to a rotation of reading stations.
Comfortable saucers, soft seats and a cozy carpet will help my students to sink into a good book.
Fourth grade, one of those magical middle grade years, is a time of literary discovery. I would like to help my students in this process by providing an updated and comfortable nook for reading.
