This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The rugs that I am requesting will be used multiple times throughout each and every school day. Our days begin and end on the rug, and much of our learning happens on them.
Morning circle, calendar, whole group math and English language arts as well as story time all happen on the rug.
My goal is for my students to have nice, new, and most importantly, CLEAN and SANITARY carpets to sit on and engage in learning. The current ones are old, stained and torn.
Our rugs are the heart of our classroom. My kindergarteners deserve to have a clean, bright and aesthetically pleasing place to grow and learn. We have had not had new rugs in over 5 years, and with as much as we use them, they do wear out quickly and become embedded with dirt and debris, making them an allergy and health hazard for both the children, myself, my co-teacher and aide who are all very sensitive to dust.
These rugs are special because they are divided into squares which translate into defined and individual spaces for our students, which help to reinforce boundaries visually as well as give the tinies their own sense of space.
