Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are bright, motivated middle schoolers who are preparing for a critical upcoming exam. Many of them face challenges such as limited access to engaging reading material at home, and they thrive in structured, interactive classroom environments. To ensure their success, I am designing a test preparation unit that prioritizes independent reading, small-group instruction, and independent practice—giving them the skills and confidence they need to excel.

Test success isn’t just about the exam—it starts with a deep love for reading and the stamina to engage with challenging texts.

My students have spent the year building a love for reading independently, and have requested new books and genres for our class library. Students with special needs will receive tailored support through multimodal resources, including graphic novels, digital reading materials, and targeted small groups that focus on their specific skill gaps. With a cozy environment created in our last Donors Choose Project, we are now ready to go full throttle into independent and small group reading and instruction to support their anticipated success in and out of the classroom.

To make this possible, I am seeking support to provide essential classroom resources that will encourage independent reading and access to digital learning tools, support interactive, small-group discussions and problem-solving, and motivate students to stay engaged and celebrate their progress.

With the exam fast approaching in April, these books and materials will make a tangible difference in our classroom. They will allow me to create an engaging, student-centered environment where every learner has the opportunity to practice, collaborate, and build confidence in their abilities.
