Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

First graders love science—especially when they get to learn through hands-on exploration. This year, our students are diving into two exciting physical science topics: sound and light. From creating instruments to test vibration to exploring shadows and reflections with light, these lessons help students develop critical thinking, collaboration, and observation skills.

The most important part of this project is putting the right materials—like flashlights, mirrors, plastic cups, balloons, glow-in-the-dark stickers, and string—into the hands of every student so they can fully engage in these experiments.

With 150 students across five classrooms, these supplies will allow us to set up small-group investigations where each child can test ideas, ask questions, and discover how sound and light work in the world around them. By making science fun, accessible, and active, we’re helping our students build a strong foundation for future STEM learning.
