I teach 31 three to five year old students in a play based program. My students come from low income families. They are always so excited to be at school. Even students who have a hard time getting dropped off soon become very engaged in classroom activities.
My students are always surprising me with how they use toys and other learning materials in the classroom.
They are so creative and use things in ways I would never think of myself. They are all so curious and great problem solvers. I love seeing their reactions when they discover something new to them.
My Project
The light cube will help my students asks questions and explore topics in a concrete, hands on way which is very important in early childhood education. Through play with the light table, children will learn to make predictions and observations about how different materials will react with the light. The light cube is so versatile that my students will get to explore with various different materials such as sand, colored water, paint, x-rays, and other translucent items so they can explore different properties of objects.
By donating to this project, you will be helping my students engage in the scientific process and develop critical thinking skills.
They will learn to ask questions and test out hypotheses in an actively engaging way. This skills are so important for children, not only in science, but in all areas of their life and education.
